Barranquilla - City of Carnival

Barranquilla is located in the Atlántico Department, is considered the most important coastal city and replaced Puerto Colombia as the most important seaport in the last century. Course of the carnival

The celebration takes place on three days - each day is accompanied by a different motto.

  1. Day: The official start of the Barranquilla Carnival is a Saturday on which the "Flower Battle" (Batalla de Flores) takes place. The carnival queen leads hundreds of folk dance groups past the palcos (grandstands). A sea of colors and exuberant music accompanies this parade, which begins in the early morning hours and ends late at night.
  2. Day: On Sunday, countless dance groups celebrate the "Great Parade of Traditions" (Gran Parada de Tradición).
  3. Day: On Rose Monday, the “Big Orchestra” celebrates Carnival Tuesday with the ritual burial of Joselito. A relaxed atmosphere, parties until late into the night and Caribbean temperatures make this spectacle a very special event.

This event definitely stands up to a comparison to the Carnival of Rio.
