Life & Work

From Bollywood to Hollywood - actress Priyanka Chopra has succeeded in what many colleagues only dream of. After having acted in well over 50 films, the former Miss World is now also taking on roles in American productions such as the crime series “Quantico” or the summer blockbuster “Baywatch”.

Priyanka Chopra, who was born on July 18, 1982 in Jamshedpur, East India, has been shaped by commuting between the USA and India since early childhood. Priyanka Chopra grew up in both countries: While her parents, as military doctors, often had to move within India, the daughter was able to move in with an American aunt. She graduated from high school somewhere between Queens, New York, and Bareilly, India.

Priyanka Chopra Miss World 2000

She actually planned to become a software developer or study criminal psychology, but an unexpected coincidence should open completely different doors for Priyanka Chopra. Without her knowledge, her parents had entered her in the Miss World election - which of course she promptly won in 2000. For the beautiful brunette, the choice was a real stroke of luck. In the following months she received several offers for film roles in Bollywood productions. Chopra made her Bollywood debut in the agent thriller "The Hero: Love Story of a Spy", which quickly became the most successful blockbuster of 2003 in India.

Priyanka Chopra in Bollywood cinema

Since the phenomenal breakthrough with “The Hero”, Priyanka Chopra has appeared in more than 50 different film productions - a large part of them from Bollywood. These include some blockbusters such as the science fiction superhero epic “Krrish” (2006), in which she played an over-ambitious journalist. In 2006, "Krrish" was the most successful film in India, grossing $ 18 million worldwide.

Chopra's appearance in the gangster thriller “Don - The Game Begins” (2006) is also worth mentioning. At the side of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, she played the vengeful Roma who took the law into her own hands after the death of her sister. In 2011 the successful thriller was continued with "Don - The King Is Back".

“Quantico” with Priyanka Chopra

It rarely happens that Bollywood actors make the leap to Hollywood. Priyanka Chopra even topped that. She managed to get a leading role in the American prime-time TV series "Quantico" (2015). With that she wrote Bollywood history. In the crime series "Quantico" Chopra plays the young FBI agent Alex Parrish. Trained at the FBI cadre school Quantico, Parrish has to find an assassin who has completed the training with her. In the USA, “Quantico” by ABC is already in its third season.

This is how Priyanka Chopra came to "Baywatch"

Actually, the role of the "Baywatch" villain Victor Leeds should be taken over by a man. However, the script was quickly rewritten when the producers of the series remake decided on Priyanka Chopra instead. Victor became Victoria and instead of having to take on a nasty guy, Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson faced an Indian beauty who turns out to be a criminal mastermind.

Because the gender swap in “Baywatch” worked so well, Priyanka Chopra has even thrown her hat into the running for the next “Bond” film - fans will soon be able to admire her as perhaps even on Her Majesty's behalf.
