The 10 Worst NFL Injuries Of All Time
Gridiron, as American football is called, is one of the most physically intense sports in the world. Too often the players collide with each other, causing dislocations and shocks. These injuries sometimes have a lasting impact on the players. As the 2015 film Concussion revealed, NFL players are at serious risk of head trauma from injuries related to football. Although injuries are common in sports, protective measures are highly valued by NFL management. Even so, throughout the history of the NFL, we have seen late career injuries and amazing recoveries from horrific injuries. We search history to bring you the top 10 worst injuries of all time in American Football / NFL.
10 Destroy Wright injury
The most painful thing that can happen to an energetic young athlete is that his career ends as soon as it begins. That's exactly what happened to Destry Wright, who only played one season for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In a June 2000 preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, Wright twisted his ankle, causing a dislocation and fracture of his right leg. The injury was so terrible that his right foot was twisted in the opposite direction. Wright had to retire because of his injury.
9. Jeff Fuller injury
Immediately after the Loma Prieta earthquake, the San Francisco 49ers faced the New England Patriots at Stanford University Stadium. During that game, which took place in October 1989, Jeff Fuller struck his helmet against that of an opponent. The impact of the collision shattered his neck, partially paralyzing him. Fuller was unable to get up after the collision. Fuller went into rehab and had to retire from football. He can now walk, but he can no longer use any of his hands.
8. Bo Jackson injury
Bo Jackson is one of the most diverse people in sport and is considered the only athlete to be named an All-Star of Baseball and American Football. When Bo played for the Los Angeles Raiders in January 1991, he was involved in a very tough duel. The impact of this device broke and injured his hipbone. Bo lost all of the cartilage in his injured hip and had to end his football and rugby career.
7. Junior Bucket injury
Junior Seau recalls the painful battles of the NFL players. Aside from the glamor and antics on the field, NFL players are emotionally charged people like all of us. After coming out of retirement to play for the New England Patriots, Seau attempted a one-on-one combat in a 2006 game against the Chicago Bears in which he grabbed his arm and broke it. His arm broke and he could be seen swaying as he rolled onto the floor. So Seau withdrew from football. Years later, in 2012 to be precise, the NFL star shot himself in the chest.
6. Eric Wood injury
Shortly after Wood signed a five-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, he began to play along. In November 2009, during a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the opposing player Montavious attacked Stanley Wool, pressing his shin to the ground. The device tore Wood's leg in half. It was found that he suffered from a complex fracture of his tibia and fibula. Fortunately, Wood has recovered to start the 2010 season with the Bills.
5. NaVorro Bowman injury
While playing 49 for the 2014 San Franciscoers, Bowman joined a group of players battling for the ball. In the middle of the crowd, an opposing player landed on Bowman's knee, who then bent down. The opposing player, not knowing what had happened, landed completely on Bowman, further aggravating his injury. His knee would have bent 45 degrees. The injury caused him to miss the 2014 season, but he returned to the game in 2015.
4. Jeremy Lane injury
When Lane played for the Seattle Seahawks against the New England Patriots in the 2015 Super Bowl, he fell on his arm after being attacked by opposing player Julian Edelman. His arm could not withstand the impact of his weight and therefore broke, injuring him from wrist to elbow.
3. Darryl Stingley injury
That injury, one of the most terrifying in NFL history, really tore my heart apart. While Stingley was playing in a preseason game for the New England Patriots in 1978, he collided with Oakland Raiders player Jack Tatum. In the collision, Tatum's helmet collided with Stingley's shoulder. The collision resulted in a fracture of the spinal cord and the 4th and 5th cervical vertebrae. Stingley was unable to get up after the collision and became paraplegic.
2. Mike utley injury
Utley is one of the most formidable goalkeepers in NFL history. He played in every Detroit Lions game in 1991 until the November 1991 disaster. In a game against the Los Angeles Rams, Utley was hit and unable to move his body. In his ordeal, he gave fans a thumbs up to show he was fine, but the case happened the other way around. Utley was found to have broken a cervical vertebra during the shock and will be paralyzed.
1. Kevin Everett injury
The former Buffalo Bills' career ended abruptly in September 2007 while attempting to take on Denver Broncos player Domenik Hixon. Everett injured his neck as a result of the duel. Then he fell unconscious and was evacuated from the field on a ventilator. The cervical spine was later found to have slipped and broken. This injury ended his career. However, he slowly resumed movement.
